Many sayings relate to this, so widespread that you can barely see it.
A court’s penalty, could remove your right, to drink wine. You’d be unable to care for yourself, and would eventually invoke the wrath of a fool, someone who you owed money too, but were unable to pay, from delirium tremens and exhaustion, called “lethargy” or “depression” in our modern parlance.

They’re treating you, their father, like a gumball machine. If it’s a son, it’s an abuse ward, if it’s a daughter, they kill their nephews and nieces.
